A new Family Tree DNA coupon offer is promoting pedigree file (GEDCOM) uploads. This is a good way to improve your match comparisons. What is more, this is a nice coupon for any accounts we manage where we have ummm overlooked uploading a current GEDCOM file.
I poked around some, and the coupon DOES seem to cover the Family Finder test. Who doesn’t want to test another cousin with Family Finder for $99 – $10 = $89 US?
Here is what you do:
Login to your myFTDNA account, https://www.familytreedna.com/login.aspx.
Find the Family Tree DNA Coupon Offer
Look across the top of the home page for the $10 Coupon offer. It is highly pastel.
Use the Wizard
Click the $10 Coupon offer to open the upload wizard.
Click anyplace in the first box to start the upload.
Select your GEDCOM file from your computer, and click the open button.
Select the right person
After uploading, the second window auto loads the first person in the GEDCOM file. This will usually not be the person who took the DNA test. Click the red click here if this is not you link to pick the right person.
A text box invites you to type the kit owner’s name. This should again be the person who took the DNA test.
Find the name of the person who took the test by typing their name into the box. A list names will appear under the box. Click the right one to select it.
Then decide if you wish to show all information to your matches and make it available for download through DNAGedcom. If you cleaned your GEDCOM on export, showing all should be fine. I sure hope you payed attention to Judy Russell all of the times she has talked about respecting your relatives’ privacy.
Once you have selected the correct person, click the blue Finish button in the lower right corner.
Your coupon code is at the top of the final screen. According to the text, you will also be e-mailed the code.
